Boise State’s Master of Social Work (MSW) Online is recognized for its affordability, high-quality curriculum and graduation and retention rates. Graduates of the MSW Online program have an 89.8% pass rate on the LMSW exam. Grounded in community-centric learning, this program equips students with an ethical, justice-inspired skillset to make a difference in their communities.
Graduates are prepared to take licensing exams and begin practicing as professional social workers or transition into diverse career opportunities spanning from personal counseling to non-profit leadership.
This program accommodates a wide range of academic backgrounds and professional experiences, offering two paths to earning a master’s degree.
The regular program MSW is for students with bachelor’s degrees in other disciplines seeking to transition into social work. It provides comprehensive foundational coursework combined with in-person field work that is essential for mastering the principles and practices of social work.
The advanced standing MSW is designed for graduates of accredited undergraduate social work programs and focuses exclusively on advanced-level coursework combined with in-person field work. With shorter completion times, the advanced standing MSW offers a streamlined path to earning your degree.

Accreditation of a baccalaureate or master’s social work program by the Council on Social Work Education’s Board of Accreditation indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of program quality evaluated through a peer review process. An accredited program has sufficient resources to meet its mission and goals and the Board of Accreditation has verified that it demonstrates compliance with all sections of the Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards.
